Cobalt Creative Marks Fourth Anniversary
September 3, 2001
Oakland, California, U.S.A - Today, Cobalt Creative marked the fourth
anniversary of its founding by not doing a damn bit of work on Labor Day.
"We partied instead," noted co-founder and creative director 'Sir'
Geoffrey Sobul, still looking a bit groggy. "All weekend. Don't ask me
what we did or where. No telling if the Feds are gonna see this.
I just know we partied."
"We earned this weekend off," said co-founder and CEO J. Arthur Sobul.
"It's been a helluva four years. I'm proud to say my little experiment
has paid off. It's been everything I hoped for and more." Asked to
elaborate, he replied: "Like hell I'm gonna tell you my secrets.
There's no telling who's gonna read this."
"Man, that dude needs to lighten up," 'Sir' Geoffrey, standing
nearby, commented. "We just made a bunch a phone calls and
did a lot of good work."
Cobalt has seen steady growth in its four years, but CEO J.
Arthur is loath to divulge just how big the closely held
agency has gotten. "Our competitors would love to know
how high our billings are, but you can go to hell if you
think you're gonna get that information out of me. And
don't even bother asking my snivelling little bean counter either."
So, of course, we went ahead and asked snivelling little bean
counter and CFO J.A. Sobul about billings. "Uh, is anyone from
the I.R.S. going to read this?" he asked nervously. When told
this would be posted on the Web, he gulped loudly and said: "I
think we're done talking now," and buried his face in a stack of papers.
So we went back to the CEO. "Look, we're still in business and
will be for the forseable future," J. Arthur said. "And I'm proud
to point out that, unlike many of the other agencies in this area,
we've been able to weather this recent economic downturn without a
single layoff. I consider this to be one of my greatest achievements
as head of Cobalt Creative."
This has provided much comfort to Copy Boy Jeffrey Sobul. "Gosh, I
sure don't want to end up living under a bridge eating squirrel,"
he noted with a degree of seriousness. "I'm just thankful for all
the hard work that J. Arthur and 'Sir' Geoffrey have done."
"Hard work?!" snorted Copy Boy's alter ego Raven. "Ha! They're just
slave drivers and we're just their slaves. We get all the crappy
projects and they get all the glory."
"I thought you didn't care about that glory stuff?" Copy Boy replied.
"I don't."
"How many pieces did you enter in award shows this year, Raven?"
"Oh, shut up, you little 'Sir' Geoffrey wannabe!"
Yes, just one big happy family as Cobalt Creative embarks on its
fifth year in existence. "All my subjects love me and want to keep
working here," J. Arthur said. "And I want to keep them. I'll be
damned if I'm gonna do all this work myself."
So we can expect more good things and continued growth from Cobalt?
"Absolutely," J. Arthur says emphatically. "You can't get rid of us
that easily."
