Sobul a panelist on two-hour NPR special

August 7, 2006

Oakland, CA - It was the summer before the Summer of Love, 1966. The Beatles released Revolver, the album that would make the Summer of Love possible.

"It was simply a ground breaking album," Cobalt Creative Principal/Copywriter Jeff Sobul tells Paul Ingles, producer of the acclaimed Everything Was Right: The Beatles' Revolver, a two-hour show airing on Public Radio International stations across the country this summer, 40 years after the album's release. "In terms of being influential, it's probably more important than Sgt. Pepper, because it started creating a bridge between what they were doing in 1964 and 1965 on the pop side and the more serious music they were starting to produce, and what would end up on a concept album like Sgt. Pepper."

Sobul, who co-authored the book The Colour of Your Dreams: The Beatles Psychedelic Music with fellow show panelist Stuart Madow, appears on the show with luminaries such as singer/songwriter Shawn Colvin and Mark Lewisohn, author of The Beatles Recording Sessions.

"It was a tremendous honor to be part of such a great program," Sobul said. "It was also a joy to be able to talk about a subject like Beatles music, their genius and influence on music, politics and culture, especially at a time like the mid-'60s."

The program will be airing on different PRI stations over the course of the summer. You will also be able to hear the program, as well as Sobul's complete interview with Ingles, on www.cobaltcreative.com in the near future.
